looks like we made it, again.

It’s that time again, landmark post time. Last time I posted one of these was April 4th when La.com reached 200 posts. Aside from a few spikes in April, the site’s been getting anywhere from 0-15 hits a day. Wooo.
Find out some other stats after the jump. (nothing posted before April 4th is taken into [...]

victory!

Some people like to watch all the oscar movies before the awards ceremony. I wanted to see all the stupid comedies before summer was over. While we could argue that with the shit weather in Vancouver it already feels like summer has ended, lets just call labor day the last weekend of summer. I saw [...]

like this, but minus the mid drift

and minus the crashing a wedding, and add some weed. I’d love to make a stupid comedy with women actually being funny. Guys always get to be high and witty but any stoner girl is usually passed out on the couch. I’ve said this before but I just came across this article while looking for [...]

a man who laughs like a parrot

‘Parrot Laugh’ man laughed a lot, and when the joke was over, the theater laughed at him. I went to see Tropic Thunder at the VanEast tuesday ($5.50!) and I pretty much laughed the whole way through. There were a few lulls in the film, but that didn’t stop me from finding something funny every [...]

The balcony was never this good

With the news of ABC’s re-tooling of “At the Movies”, the movie geek blog roll went ape over this clip of Gene and Roger slinging insults at each other. However, only LA.com brings you the extended “I already shot my wad on the protestants” version here.

someone doesn’t want a trilogy

So I was reading a news item and saw the banner ad for the new X-Files movie and was thoroughly confused by the faces that are supposed to be Mulder and Scully. WTF kind of terrible advertising is this? (click on the image to enlarge) Also, it’s the only thing I’ve seen about the film, [...]

They weren’t yelling barracuda

Last Friday there were reports of a shark sighting at Martha’s Vineyard, shooting locale of Jaws. Anytime life imitates Jaws my heart skips a couple of beats. Alas, the reports turned out to be false and there was no need to bust into find-him-for-three, catch-him-and-kill-him-for-ten mode.
Interestingly enough, there will be a re-enactment of the scene [...]

But can they play dead?

Unable to explain movie piracy to your kids? Thank god for the world’s first pair of DVD-sniffing dogs, Lucky and Flo. They’re part of the MPAA’s handy pamphlet that helps ‘get the message about intellectual property to children in a fun way.’ Insert pirated copy of ‘The Love Guru’ joke here.

my happiest days are when i feel like i’m not doing anything

I’ve been listening to a podcast interview with Andrew Bujalski. (skip to a third of the way through) It’s pretty interesting, he talks about working with actors, the story inspiration, choosing to shoot on 16mm. ‘I never meant the black and white to be an homage to the past’ when asked about the BW film, [...]

on my mind lately

I need a green screen and a bunch of money. I will be accepting donations. Of course I’m only thinking about that when I’m not busy thinking about this. Read this interesting little writeup on something that has absolutely nothing to do with my mars idea.

dumb movies

Since we’re talking about movies and dumb comedies, let’s talk about dumb movies. Here’s one.  Coming out soon! This is the kind of high concept thriller that probably made an obscure, gimmick-obsessed screenwriter rich overnight, and you’d have to date rape drug me to convince me to watch it. Hold on, let me fact-check the first [...]

Where the hype machine goes to die…

Promotional stunts featuring cuddly celeb-voiced mascots means only one thing: Cannes. With most of the attention focused on tent-pole films playing out of competition (Kung Fu Panda, Indiana Jones), it’s easy to neglect the other significant premieres. Those with accreditation will get a jump on the latest from Woody Allen, Wong Kar Wai, Charlie Kaufman [...]

S. Darko

Otherwise known as Donnie Darko Part 2 begins shooting May 18. Why? Why? Why?
Yes, I read it on Perez.
